NYSE Euronext Activity Report on Warrants & Certificates

Warrants & certificates activity lower than June:

  • Down approx. 14%  for average daily value traded & 9% for average daily trades

Barclays bucks the trend:

  • Average daily value traded down by 4% to 33% for almost all issuers
  • Average daily trades down by 4% to 20% for almost all issuers
  • Barclays up 33% for average daily value traded & 10% for average daily trades
  • Could be explained byBarclays'June launch of four leverage and short certificates on NYSE Euronext's 5x and 7x CAC40 strategy indices, some of the most popular underlyings for many months now

NYSE Euronext Paris less affected  than NYSE Euronext Amsterdam (−12% vs. −17%  in terms of value traded)

  • Daily activity on index-linked products, which represent 75% of the Amsterdam market, down by 27%
  • Daily activity on leveraged indices, which represent 40% of the Paris market, only down 10%, providing less of an impact to overall activity
  • Although activity on single stock products was up by 19% on Amsterdam market, their market share in June was only 11%

Increase in activity on products indexed to currency pairs

  • Trend likely due to volatility in the Euro
  • Although these products still represented only 4% market share (average daily trade value), trading on currency products was up by 28% (18% on EUR/USD only)
