Fitch Ratings has published "European Money Market Funds - A Primer for Investors, Part 2" - the second of a series of question and answer reports focusing on European money market funds.
While Part 1 (available on Fitch's website) focused on the key attributes of money market funds and Fitch's rating criteria, Part 2 addresses more technical questions. Among others, it discusses underlying assets, reasons for capital loss in a fund or the inability to meet redemptions, credit and liquidity risk mitigating factors, and funds' size and investor base.
"In a context of regulatory changes, growing cross border competition and still varying profiles of cash funds throughout Europe, Fitch is committed to continuing to provide investors with educational research on the technicalities of money market funds," says Aymeric Poizot, Head of Fitch Ratings EMEA Fund and Asset Manager Ratings group.
Fitch also provides a dedicated fund surveillance tool accessible free of charge through www.fitchratings.com/surveillance/funds, which provides analytical information on a monthly basis and leverages Fitch's surveillance data received from fund administrators as part of the agency's ongoing surveillance. Investors can find general information on rated funds, rating rationale, and regularly updated data related to size, yield, asset breakdown, maturities, credit quality or liquidity profile.
